What’s zirconia?

Zirconium dioxide comes in the chemical form ZrO2. It is the main oxide of zirconium. It is usually white in color and has no odor or taste. These crystals can be dissolved in water, hydrogen chloric, and dilute sulfuric. Chemically, it is inactive. It has properties like high melting point, high resistance and high melting temperature.

Principal areas for Zirconia are

Materials for the production of zirconium and its compounds.

It can be used for making metal zirconium, or zirconium compound. This is used most often to produce household and piezoelectric clay products. This can be used to manufacture non-ferrous materials like aluminum and steel, and optical and zirconium dioxide fibres. This is also used for baking varnishes, electrostatic coatings and ceramic pigments. To prevent saltwater corroding, epoxy resin can contain it.

Refractory

Zirconia is a refractory and polycrystalline zirconia fibril. ZrO2 is a high temperature refractory fibre material which has exceptional melting points, resistance against oxidation and other remarkable properties.

Zirconia can be used in extended times at temperatures higher than 1500°C. The fiber will remain the same shape even at temperatures above 2200 degrees Celsius, which is its highest service temperature. ZrO2 has a superior resistance to alkali and acid corrosion to SiO2 and Al2O2. Insoluble in water, hydrofluoric acid and sulfuric acids; slightly solubilized with hydrochloric as well as nitric. You can make zirconate by melting it with an alkali.
