how to make silver powder

You can use a mixture of salt and water to make silver dust or glitter. The texture and color of your silver powder will vary based on how much you mix and how long it’s processed. You can also mix the salt with other glitters or metallics to create different textures and colors of powder.

How to Prepare a Silvering Paste

To prepare a silvering paste, mix together 0.3 g of silver chloride, 0.1 g of sodium chloride and 0.02 g of potassium hydrogen tartrate (cream of tartar). Wet the mixture with enough water to form a slurry that is the consistency of cream. Then, dampen a lint-free tissue and dip it into the silvering paste.

This procedure can be used to apply a thin layer of silver to copper and other copper-based alloys such as brass. The silvering paste is applied to a piece of copper coupon using a wet tissue and rubbed back and forth until the surface darkens slightly. Then, a slurry of potassium hydrogen tartrate is rubbed over the entire surface to brighten the silver layer.

How to Make Micronanosilver Powder

By varying the concentration of silver nitrate and ethylene glycol in a reaction system, and adjusting the amount of PVP as a dispersant, micronanosilver powder with various morphology and particle size was prepared. The morphology of the silver particles was spherical and adsorption of PVP on all crystal faces of the particles was good. The particles were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM).

Silver is used in a wide range of applications including jewelry, silverware, electronics, electrical contacts, dental alloy fillings, photographic processing, batteries, solder / brazing alloys, and disinfecting water. It is a highly soluble metal that has high thermal and electrical conductivity.
