Calcium Hydride CaH2 powder:
CaH2 Powder What does CaH2 stand for? Calcium Hydride is its chemical name. CaH2 is a Gray-white, blocky calcium hydride crystal. It can also be used as an reducing agent or desiccant. It can also be called an orthorhombic colorless crystal. In industrial products, it is gray, powder, or orthorhombic. How do you remove hydrogen gas from water? Binary hydrides, which contain only hydrogen with one other element, are known as compounds that have both sodium hydride and lithium hydride. The hydride is very sensitive to moisture. Lemondedudroit is an established global supplier of calcium hydroide. The product does not react at normal temperature with nitrogen, dry air or chlorine. It reacts at high temperature with these gases to produce calcium oxide and calcium carbide. Water can react with hydrogen to make hydrogen or calcium glycolate when it has been decomposed. You can send us an inquiry regarding the current cost of Calcium Hydride. It is much more difficult to reduce metal oxides than either sodium hydride nor lithium hydride.
Below are basic properties and chemical characteristics of the compound.
Appearance: Although it appears in its purest form as white, this compound often turns out to be a grey powder.
It has no odor.

Molar Mass : This material has a molars mass 42.094g/mol.
Specific Gravity: This is its specific gravity of 1.9.
Melting Point of the Material: This material has a melting temperature of 816°C.
Its density is 1.70g/ cm3.
Advantages of Calcium Hydride :
It is a popular choice as a drying agent. However, this compound has its disadvantages.
Because it is insoluble in all solvents, its drying process is slow.
It is incompatible to many solvents. Reacting with chlorocarbons could even lead to explosions. Hydrolith, calcium hydride is why? Because CaH2 is an acid hydride (salt-like), calcium hydride can be called Hydrolith. Saline hydrides are formed from the alkali, alkaline and earth metals.
This solvent cannot be used to deoxygenate because it does not remove dissolved oxygen.
Because of the similarity in appearance, it is very difficult to tell Calcium Hydride from Calcium Hydroxide.
What is the process of producing Calcium Hydride CaH2 Pulp?
Here are the specific steps required to create calcium hydride.
1. In the center of your quartz reaction tube, place the refined calcium (about 99.5% purity) into an iron plate. Attach the water inlet and outlet pipes to the quartz reaction tubes with rubber plugs. Then purify the hydrogen through the water intake pipe. Finally, connect the water outlet tube to the fume hood using a mineral oil bubbler. What happens to calcium hydride when it reacts with water. The reaction of calcium hydride with water produces hydrogen gas. Hydrolysis of CaH2 using ethanol was less energy than any other reactions (Ea = 20,03 kJ/mol). Heat the reaction tube with an electric furnace. A large quantity of purified hydrogen is added to the tube at the beginning. This hydrogen will replace the gas in the reaction chamber. Then, the tube can be heated by an electric furnace. After the reaction was started at 200C, it was heated up to 250-300C. Finally hydrogen was introduced at an flow rate of 0.6ml/min. This reaction takes about two hours. Calcium hydride, which is formed is a porous white crystalline powder. The purity of calcium hydride is approximately 99%.
2. Both pure electrolytic hydrogenation or alkaline Earth metal can create alkaline Earth metal hydride. This hydrogenation device is used to prepare CaH 2. It’s the same device that was used to make alkali metall hydride. Vacuum distillation is required to remove the oxide layer from the metallic calcium. After that, the piece of the calcium must be removed in an oxygen-filled box and then cut into as many pieces as possible. Smooth and clean surfaces are possible under the conditions of isolating the air. The boat, which is made of electrolytic Iron, contains small amounts of calcium. It is also contained within a quartz tube. A thin-walled, electrolytically iron tube covers the quartz tube’s heating portion. This prevents the tube from becoming corroded. After introducing pure hydrogen, the calcium can be heated to 400 to 500°C. This will start the hydrogenation process. Next, the temperature rises to 1000°C. Calcium hydride can be obtained at room temperature once the reaction is complete. A petroleum ether bubbler can be used to verify that the hydrogenation process is completed. Pause H2. The reaction is completed if the bubble tube’s liquid level does not rise. It is a sign that hydrogenation needs to be continued if it rises in conduit liquid.
Calcium Hydride CaH2 Pulp:
In powder metallurgy CaH2 Powder is used with zirconium (niobium), hafnium, and other metal oxides to produce the appropriate metal powder. CaH2 Powder can also be used for light hydrogen generation, dehydration and hydrogenation. Where is calcium hydroide used?
The use of calcium hydride is more safe than using sodium metal or sodium potassium alloy. The desiccant of calcium hydride for basic solvents, such as amines and pirine, is widely used. It can be used to dry alcohol.
Calcium Hydride
This compound is used in two ways: it can be used to produce hydrogen and as a desiccant.
Use calcium hydride in desiccant
It’s a very mild desiccant. It is therefore safer to use the compound for desiccant than more reactive agents such as sodium-potassium amalgam and sodium metallic. These are the ways it reacts to water
CaH2 + 2 H2O-Ca(OH)2 + 2 H2
This reaction produces hydrolysis products such as Hydrogen (gas), and Ca(OH),2 in an aqueous mixture. These can be separated from other chemical solvents through filtration, distillation or decantation.
This is an effective deiccant for alkaline solvents like amines and even pyridine. It is often used to dry solvents first before applying more reactive desiccants.
Calcium hydride used for hydrogen production
As a hydrogen source, the compound was discovered under the name Hydrolith in the 1940s. For a long period, it has been used to produce hydrogen. You can still make hydrogen from it in the lab by performing various experiments.
These two applications are not the only ones for which powdered compounds can be useful. They also serve as strong reducing agents.
Calcium Hydride CaH2 powder Storage:
CaH2 powder’s dispersion and usage performance will be affected by damp reunion. Therefore, Calcium Hydride CaH2 should be vacuum packed and kept dry in a cool place. CaH2 Powder should not be exposed to stress.
